Bonefish (o'io)

Trevally (ulua)
There are several species of trevally in Hawaii, locally called 'ulua'. The ulua is
probably Hawaii's best known gamefish. These fish can grow to very large sizes
(100+ lbs), but are mostly caught by local flyfisherman in the 1-10 lbs class. If you
see them and can get a cast to them, chances are good.

Bluefine Trevally (papio)
Fun action can be had with these feisty little buggers. They will readily
hit flies, if you can get in front of them, since they are often moving very fast. If
conditions are right and you are in their hole, the action can be pretty
incredible.

Filefish (broomtail)
These strong fish can be seen tailing near shore and on the flats. From
the corner of your eye they will catch a bonefisherman's attention. They are
a bit picky on flies, but if hooked they can be fun. At least worth practicing
the sneak-attack to tailing fish.

Trumpetfish (trumpy)
These long johns of the sea can either wake you up on a slow day or really piss
you off. Sometimes they save the day when you just don't want to be skunked,
even though they don't put up much of a fight. One thing is for sure, you will win
the longest fish contest.
